Chega will chair the inquiry commission into INEM

A project, which has gained consensus among political parties in a leaders’ conference, has been submitted and awaits approval from the President of the Assembly of the Republic.

This project outlines the formation of an inquiry commission consisting of 24 members: eight from the PSD, five each from Chega and PS, two from IL and two from Livre, one from the PCP, and one from CDS-PP.

The commission will be chaired by a member of Chega, with the PSD assuming the first vice-presidency and the PS the second.

This marks the third occurrence of a Chega member heading a parliamentary inquiry commission, following Rui Paulo Sousa’s leadership in the investigation into the case of the twins, spanning from May 2024 to June 2025.

Chega also presided over the inquiry into the political management of EFACEC during the last legislature, although proceedings were largely stalled due to the government’s collapse and the subsequent dissolution of the Assembly of the Republic.

The commission of inquiry, as outlined in the text approved in July, aims to “determine political, technical, contractual, legal, and financial responsibilities regarding the current situation” of the institute.

It also seeks to “evaluate the relationship between various political authorities and the INEM and clarify the involvement” of all governments since 2019 in its “political and financial management.”
