“Sunday will be a historic day for the country. We will show that the wave that began in the legislative elections was not just a confined and circumstantial wave; it was a permanent wave of transformation for the country,” he stated.
André Ventura was speaking at a campaign closing rally dinner on Thursday in Santoinho, Viana do Castelo, an event attended by more than a thousand people.
The leader of Chega expressed confidence that the party will elect several mayors on Sunday and declared that “what matters is to mark the whole country” with the party’s symbol.
Ventura also argued that the “country is changing” and this is evident in the streets.
“The country is changing, and I am certain it is changing, and that this wave will sweep through Portugal’s municipal map on the 12th. We will elect many mayors, but above all, we will show that we are here to serve them and to govern with zero tolerance for corruption,” he asserted.
“I will return to Viana, and we will conquer this country and transform it forever,” he emphasized.
The Chega leader also criticized political opponents.
“The Prime Minister is worried about Spinumviva, José Luís Carneio seems to have died politically before being born, Mariana Mortágua could have stayed in Gaza forever,” he said, suggesting that “all that vile extreme left could disappear.”
André Ventura also touched on the topics of immigration and the Roma community, accusing the PS and PSD of making Portugal “a weak and playful country.”
“Whether it hurts or not, we will put this country in order, with law and rules,” he promised, asserting that “this country that is rising is not racist, xenophobic, or intolerant, but is tired of a political class that only wanted to be politically correct, failed to do anything for the country, and only stole for 50 years.”
He contended that the mayors Chega elects “must be an example of how it is possible to govern municipalities without yielding to jobs for friends, economic interests’ influence, and corruption.”
“They may accuse me and Chega of everything under the sun, but they will never say that this party was taken over by corruption, because we will never be taken by corruption,” he declared.
