The president of Chega today expressed the party’s willingness to support an amending budget presented by an AD government if it accepts the demands of the security forces and teachers and reduces taxes.

“If the amending budget is limited to correcting the other PS budget on three or four points, Chega is open to checking the possibility of evaluating it. If it brings the police mission supplement up to par, if it restores teachers’ length of service, if it manages to give nurses some of their historic demands, if it reduces taxes, because we have a very high tax burden here… if this amending budget manages to show signs in these areas, Chega is available to work on it, to evaluate it and to make it viable,” he said.

André Ventura was speaking to journalists at a press conference at Chega’s national headquarters in Lisbon.

The Chega leader stressed that, with regard to the state budget for 2025 and beyond, “there is no possibility of it being made viable” without “an agreement”.

“It’s very different to enable an amending budget and a General State Budget in a normal period, because this is a macroeconomic policy instrument,” he said.

At this press conference, the Chega president also commented on the results in the emigrant constituencies, claiming victory at a time when the vote count has not yet finished.

André Ventura said that Chega will elect two MPs, one for the Europe constituency and one for the Out of Europe constituency, and “will be far ahead in terms of the number of votes if we combine the two constituencies”.

André Ventura also pointed out that Chega “will have won the candidacy of Augusto Santos Silva, president of the Assembly of the Republic, in the Outside Europe constituency”.

“This is a particularly important victory, because it is the symbol of the victory of humility over arrogance, of democracy over ideological and institutional blindness, it is a symbol of the victory of Chega over the socialist system that in recent years, anchored in an absolute majority, had annihilated, censored and persistently attacked Chega,” he said.
