The CDU, a coalition of the PCP and PEV, stated on Tuesday that there were 60 votes uncounted in the parish of São Domingos de Benfica in Lisbon, which were not included on Sunday during the municipal elections.
Provisional results published by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration indicated that CDU had been overtaken by Chega in the Lisbon City Council election by a mere 11 votes, resulting in the loss of one communist councilor in the capital, compared to the two elected in 2021.
The data from the general tabulation assembly, which concluded the final vote count on Friday, revealed that Chega defeated CDU by three votes, confirming the election of councilors Bruno Mascarenhas and Ana Simões Silva for Chega, and João Ferreira for CDU.
In the provisional results issued by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration, Chega, a party that failed to secure a municipal executive position in 2021, was the third most-voted candidacy, garnering 10.10% of the votes (26,780 votes), ahead of CDU, which obtained 10.09% (26,769 votes), with a margin of just 11 votes.
In Sunday’s elections, social-democrat Carlos Moedas was re-elected as the president of the Lisbon City Council by the PSD/CDS-PP/IL coalition with 41.69% of the votes, defeating socialist Alexandra Leitão (PS/Livre/BE/PAN), who received 33.95%.
