Chega’s deputy for Portalegre excluded from the lists resigns from the district.

Henrique de Freitas, former president of Chega’s Portalegre District Political Commission, announced his resignation with immediate effect in a series of messages shared with the Lusa news agency.

Freitas detailed receiving a phone call from the party leader, André Ventura, informing him that he would no longer be heading the list for Portalegre.

Freitas expressed his “enormous disappointment,” believing that the party president should recognize the political merit of the parliamentary group.

“I was completely wrong. I feel sorry for you and for Chega,” stated Freitas in a message addressed to Ventura, sent to Lusa.

In a letter to João Aleixo, president of Chega’s National Board, Freitas argued that his removal from the lists shows a lack of understanding of the political realities in the Portalegre district, leading Chega towards “electoral destruction” in both legislative and municipal elections.

The electoral constituency of Portalegre elects the fewest deputies in the country, only two, with the last elections resulting in mandates for Ricardo Pinheiro (PS) and Henrique de Freitas (Chega), who was formerly with the PSD.

The early legislative elections are scheduled for May 18, following the political crisis that led to the resignation of the AD Government, which lost a vote of confidence in parliament.
