A nine-year-old child was rescued this Sunday from a mountainous area in Arouca after suffering a fall. The victim, who sustained minor injuries, was airlifted by an INEM helicopter to São João Hospital in Porto.
A source from the Arouca Volunteer Firefighters informed Notícias ao Minuto that the child “was walking by the Frecha da Mizarela, outside of a pedestrian trail,” and had “fallen” in a hard-to-access location.
The same source mentioned that there was “a suspicion of a fracture in one lower limb” and highlighted concerns about potential hypothermia in the child. However, the injuries were assessed as minor.
The child was rescued by the firefighting team and subsequently transported by the INEM helicopter to São João Hospital in Porto.
The alert for the incident was raised at 3:17 PM. The response included nine firefighters from the Arouca brigade supported by three vehicles, the National Republican Guard (GNR), an INEM helicopter, and an Immediate Life Support (SIV) ambulance.
