A source from the Sub-Regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection of Alentejo Litoral informed that a train accident was reported at 5:29 PM, resulting in a suspension of train services.
“We have a seriously injured victim, a 12-year-old boy, who was struck by the train while with his father,” the source stated.
The incident occurred “near a bridge on the line, approximately a kilometer after the level crossing”.
Several emergency services were dispatched to the site, including a helicopter from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) based in the Algarve.
“The victim remains at the site, but will be airlifted if the helicopter can land,” it was added.
A representative from Infrastructure of Portugal (IP) confirmed that “train service on the Southern Line is suspended between Santa Clara-Sabóia and Luzianes due to an incident since 5:10 PM”.
Outside of this section, trains on this line continue their journeys without delays, the representative stated.
The “incident” that led to the suspension happened at “kilometer 246 on the Southern Line,” according to IP, without providing further details or confirming it as a train accident.
The National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection’s website indicates that 12 personnel, four vehicles, and the INEM helicopter were mobilized to the site.
