China will impose anti-dumping duties on pork imports from the EU

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that tariffs ranging from 15.6% to 62.4% will be implemented starting September 10. These tariffs will be collected as deposits by Customs.

The investigation began last June, following Brussels’ announcement of additional tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles amid escalating trade tensions between the EU and China.

“The investigating authority has preliminarily determined that EU pork and pork by-products are subject to dumping,” the ministry stated.

Dumping refers to selling goods below the cost of production.

The measures are provisional as the investigation is expected to conclude in December, when the final findings will be released.

China-EU relations have worsened in recent years, especially after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Though positioning itself as a neutral party and possible mediator in the conflict, Beijing has not publicly condemned Moscow, drawing accusations from several European capitals of aiding Russia in circumventing Western sanctions, particularly by supplying technological components used in the military industry.
