The town of Cascais, similar to Lisbon, is set to unveil its Christmas lights this Saturday, November 22nd. The inauguration ceremony will be held at Praça 5 de Outubro, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
In conjunction with the festivities, certain traffic restrictions have been implemented to ensure the safety of all participants. These include:
- Full road closure | From 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM: between the roundabout at Jardim Visconde da Luz (Filipe Nobre de Figueiredo) and the João Paulo II roundabout;
- Access will be maintained for priority vehicles, as well as residents and hotel guests accessing parking whenever possible;
- The M27 line will experience disruptions.
The Christmas lights in Cascais will remain lit until January 4th.
During this period, the local government invites residents and visitors to stroll through the Christmas Market, described as “the market closest to the sea.”
“Between the Cascais Bay, which will host the Venetian Carousel, and Jardim Visconde da Luz, there are several stalls with Christmas products. To delight the young ones, the Magic of Christmas from the Cascais Christmas Village will travel to Cascais Bay on certain days, bringing Santa Claus to the heart of the village,” according to a statement on the Cascais city council’s website.
Lisbon’s Christmas lights, covering 182 kilometers, will also be launched this Saturday at Terreiro do Paço, featuring a light show and orchestral performance with pyrotechnic effects.
As in previous years, the lighting ceremony will be marked by switching on the iconic 30-meter Christmas tree, followed by a light show and a concert by fado singer Sara Correia.
This year’s illuminations span more than three loops around the city, totaling over 182 kilometers of lights across 46 locations, including squares, streets, and avenues, achieved with approximately 1,000 lighting structures and 5,900 decorative pieces.
