Porto’s Christmas tree will light up again this Saturday, with holiday programming spread across various city locations. Aliados Avenue will host concerts by Fernando Daniel, Marisa Liz, and Rodrigo Leão.
Porto will dress up for Christmas this Saturday starting at 6:00 PM, when the tree at General Humberto Delgado Square will illuminate. This year features “a renewed design with more three-dimensional scope,” according to the municipality. Along with the tree, over 90 city streets will be illuminated.
The event will include video mapping on the city hall facade and a fireworks display. At 6:30 PM, musician Fernando Daniel will perform at Aliados Avenue.
The Christmas lights will remain on until January 6th, operating Sunday through Thursday from 5:30 PM to 11:00 PM, and until midnight on Fridays, Saturdays, and holiday eves.
Holiday programming will spread throughout the city, with main concerts at Aliados Avenue and the Christmas Market at João Chagas Garden in Cordoaria. Marisa Liz will perform at Aliados on December 8th at 6:00 PM, followed a week later by the final show of the municipal Sports in the Neighborhood program. Two days before Christmas, Rodrigo Leão will celebrate his 30-year career with young city musicians.
The Christmas Market at João Chagas Garden and Amor de Perdição Square will run daily until December 23rd, featuring:
- Christmas Tent with music, dance, theater, and circus shows
- Crystal Tent offering workshops for children
- Ice skating rink and Parisian carousel (free access with ticket collection)
The municipality has approved a €700,000 support fund for the Porto Merchants Association’s Christmas lighting, €50,000 more than in 2023. Additionally, through the municipal company Ágora, about €127,000 was invested in holiday programming, including €32,355 for the Christmas Market, €64,600 for the ice rink, and €30,000 for the carousel.
