
The Aljustrel City Council announced on Facebook the reopening of traffic in both directions on the EN2 section.
The Beja GNR confirmed the reopening occurred at 22:16.
The fire, which broke out this afternoon in Aljustrel and burned over a thousand hectares, was declared controlled shortly before 21:30, according to Civil Protection.
The blaze erupted in a forested area at Monte do Cerro, Messejana, Aljustrel, and prompted the deployment of six aerial units.
During a press conference in the evening, concluded by 20:10 with two active fronts remaining, civil protection and the city council reported approximately 1,000 hectares had been consumed by the flames.
Carlos Teles, Aljustrel’s mayor, explained the fire started in Messejana parish and reached a significant scale but remained within the municipality’s limits.
The blaze necessitated the evacuation by GNR of people from three homes near Carregueiro and caused material damage to an agricultural support building, according to authorities.
Seven firefighters were treated for exhaustion and smoke inhalation, with two hospitalizations in Beja and another at the Castro Verde Basic Emergency Service.
As of 23:00, according to the ANEPC website, 241 personnel remained on-site supported by 85 vehicles.
