The A2 highway was reopened at 8:32 PM after being closed in both directions between the Castro Verde and Aljustrel interchanges due to smoke from a fire, according to information provided to Lusa.
An agricultural fire that broke out today in the municipality of Aljustrel was being battled by 144 personnel, supported by 44 vehicles, as of 9 PM. Six aerial units were also involved in combating the blaze, stated a source from Civil Protection.
A source from the Baixo Alentejo Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command informed Lusa that the fire erupted in the Senhora da Assunção area in the parish of Messejana, with the alert issued at 6:10 PM.
The flames are consuming an area of eucalyptus forest, olive groves, and pasture, the source added.
The same source noted that there were no reports of injuries or homes at risk.
