Civil Protection extends yellow warnings in the Azores until Tuesday

The Azores’ Eastern Group islands, São Miguel and Santa Maria, are under a yellow weather warning for heavy rainfall from 8:00 PM on Sunday until noon today and also for maritime agitation from 6:00 AM to noon this Monday, as per the latest bulletin released Sunday night.

The Central Group islands, consisting of Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico, and Faial, are under a yellow warning exclusively for maritime agitation starting from 9:00 PM on Sunday until midnight on Tuesday, April 8.

The Western Group islands, Flores and Corvo, are similarly under a yellow warning for maritime disturbances from 8:00 PM on Sunday until 9:00 AM on Tuesday.

The Azores are experiencing the effects of a depression, resulting in occasional heavy rainfall, winds gusting over 70 kilometers per hour, and increased maritime unrest across the archipelago, with waves from the southwest.

In response to these adverse weather conditions, and guided by the predictions from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), Azorean Civil Protection advises residents to securely fasten doors and windows, cut down trees that pose a falling hazard, keep drainage systems clear, secure loose objects in gardens, and shelter domestic animals.
