The operations officer from the Portuguese National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC), Miguel Oliveira, reported a calmer day overall, although numerous recovery operations continue.
He detailed that between midnight and 8 PM today, there were 208 incidents recorded, primarily involving road clean-ups and minor flooding. These included 126 operations, with 60 as flood incidents and 66 related to road cleaning.
The highest number of incidents occurred in the Porto Metropolitan Area with 59 cases, followed by the Algarve with 21 and Greater Lisbon with 16. In total, 720 operatives and 282 vehicles were deployed, he added.
According to Oliveira, the forecast from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) predicted episodes of rain, sometimes intense but brief, followed by dry conditions, which reflected today’s weather scenario.
For the coming days, a significant improvement in weather conditions is expected. Tomorrow, starting from the north to the south, precipitation should cease, leading to much colder nights as temperatures drop, he noted.
Seven districts in mainland Portugal were under a yellow weather warning due to the forecast of occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms, informed the IPMA.
Viseu, Porto, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Coimbra, and Braga were under this third-tier weather alert until mid to late afternoon, while in Leiria, the warning extended until 9 PM.
