Civil Protection records more than 780 incidents by 7:00 PM

A source from ANEPC reported that the number of incidents is “dynamic and constantly evolving,” emphasizing that “the trend is increasing.”

Floods, road cleanings due to debris, or falls of trees and structures caused by strong winds account for most of the incidents.

A woman was seriously injured today in the wake of floods in the parish of Barcarena, one of the areas in the municipality of Oeiras most susceptible to bad weather, noted Mayor Isaltino Morais.

As of 4:00 PM, ANEPC had recorded 138 incidents in the Lisbon region due to the bad weather, mostly floods and fallen trees, stated Commander Paulo Santos to Lusa agency, in a report not including the city of Lisbon.

Incidents in Lisbon city related to the bad weather totaled 147 between 6:00 AM and 5:45 PM today, according to the Civil Protection. The Campo Pequeno tunnel, which was closed, reopened at 6:15 PM.

The districts of Lisbon, Setúbal, and Santarém are under an orange warning, the second most severe, from 3:41 PM until 9:00 PM today due to heavy rain and thunderstorms, informed the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

Like the entire territory of mainland Portugal, these three districts were under a yellow warning, the least severe, but the IPMA decided to elevate this warning to orange, according to a statement released at 4:18 PM.

On Wednesday, the districts of Setúbal, Évora, Beja, and Faro will be under an orange warning between 3:00 AM and 3:00 PM due to heavy rain, along with thunderstorms and wind, according to the IPMA.

Additionally, the IPMA has issued a yellow warning for all 18 districts of mainland Portugal between today and Wednesday at various times due to adverse weather conditions.

The orange warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a “moderate to high risk meteorological situation,” while the yellow warning is for situations posing a risk to specific activities dependent on weather conditions.
