The National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) has confirmed the availability of 29 aircraft this Friday, ahead of an anticipated hot weekend, ensuring readiness for any emergency interventions required.
In a statement released to the media, ANEPC noted, “Only three aircraft are temporarily out of service due to documentation issues that have been identified and are in the process of being resolved.”
This clarification from Civil Protection comes in response to a report earlier today by CNN Portugal, which suggested no helicopters were available because the supplying company had allowed the insurance to lapse.
According to the released statement, the operational aircraft include 15 light helicopters, 10 medium amphibious planes, 2 air coordination helicopters, and 2 evaluation and reconnaissance planes.
Additionally, ANEPC emphasized that the Special Device for Combating Rural Fires (DECIR) “is operating as planned for this time of year, ensuring the necessary resources for the prevention and fighting of fires, as well as the safety of the population,” the statement added.
