Civil Protection’s recommendations to pilgrims walking to Fátima

Many pilgrims are already en route to Fátima as they prepare for the celebration on May 13th, marking the date of Our Lady’s first apparition to the three shepherd children.

“Numerous pilgrims are on their way to the Sanctuary of Fátima. To ensure a safe pilgrimage experience, the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) emphasizes the importance of adhering to several safety recommendations,” stated ANEPC in a post on their Facebook page.

**What are the recommendations?**

– Walk in single file and stay on the roadside;
– Walk facing the traffic;
– Wear a reflective vest (even during the day);
– Do not use, or allow the use of, headphones while walking;
– Avoid using a mobile phone while walking on the road;
– Refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages before or during the walk;
– Avoid walking during the hottest hours;
– Plan eating and resting stops in advance;
– Be mindful of cars, even when praying or singing;
– If it is necessary to gather the group, always do so off the road;
– Support vehicles should stop on the same side as the walkers, off the road, and in visible spots.

The ANEPC also urges pilgrims to utilize the official Fátima paths, which can be found at [Caminhos de Fátima](https://caminhosdefatima.org/).
