Clinical director of ULS Amadora-Sintra resigns

A memo from the board of directors to the management of the health unit indicates that “for personal reasons, Dr. Diana Sousa Mendes, the executive member with responsibilities as clinical director for the hospital area of ULS Amadora-Sintra, has requested to cease her role.”

The ULS administration will immediately begin the process of replacing the Hospital Clinical Directorate, “aiming to ensure the greatest possible speed in this procedure,” states the memo, noting that Diana Sousa Mendes will continue in her role until the process is complete.

The board of directors understands and accepts the reasons provided by the doctor and has requested the “collaboration and commitment of all professionals to ensure the normality of hospital activities during this transition period.”

Diana Sousa Mendes assumed the position in March of this year when the current board of directors, led by Carlos Sá, took office.

In recent days, the emergency department of the Amadora-Sintra Hospital experienced lengthy wait times, exceeding 15 hours for urgent patients (yellow bracelet), due to a surge in patient numbers.

The ULS comprises the Fernando Fonseca Hospital, the new Sintra Hospital, and the primary health care units of the municipalities of Amadora and Sintra, serving a population of about 600,000 people.
