The Israeli military reportedly used tractors and heavy machinery to destroy warehouses and infrastructure at a facility housing essential equipment, plant materials, and tools for reproducing native seeds, according to the CNA.
The Confederation described the attack as “a direct blow to Palestinian efforts to preserve local biodiversity and ensure food sovereignty.”
The CNA stated that the destruction of a seed bank represents an act of “cultural erasure” aimed at “breaking generational ties between farmers and their land.”
Furthermore, it is considered an “unacceptable and dark action” perpetuated by the State of Israel, which uses “food — hunger — as a weapon of warfare against the Palestinian population.”
The CNA expressed solidarity with Palestinian farmers, fishermen, and people, calling for immediate international intervention to hold the Israeli occupation accountable for repeated violations of agricultural, environmental, and human rights.
The Confederation urged the Portuguese Government to clearly condemn these actions and proceed with the immediate recognition of the State of Palestine.
