The provisional results released by the Secretariat-General of the Ministry of Internal Administration show that the Socialist Party (PS) remains the political force with the greatest representation in the parish councils of Lisbon. However, they lost the presidency of two local authorities to the “Por ti, Lisboa” coalition – PSD/CDS-PP/IL: Campo de Ourique and Campolide.
In the 2021 local elections, PS maintained leadership in 13 parish councils but lost six to the “Novos Tempos” coalition – PSD/CDS-PP/MPT/PPM/Aliança, specifically Alvalade, Arroios, Avenidas Novas, Lumiar, Parque das Nações, and São Domingos de Benfica.
In the recent Sunday elections, the “Viver Lisboa” coalition – PS/Livre/BE/PAN regained Arroios, with the victory of independent João Jaime Pires, backed by PS, securing 42.34% with 5,679 votes, defeating Madalena Natividade from PSD/CDS-PP/IL, who received 33.26% with 4,462 votes.
The other 11 councils where the PS remains in the presidency are Ajuda, Alcântara, Beato, Benfica, Marvila, Misericórdia, Olivais, Penha de França, Santa Clara, Santa Maria Maior, and São Vicente, according to provisional results.
Among these, three socialists were re-elected for a second term: Jorge Marques in Ajuda with 46.56%, Silvino Correia in Beato with 38.16%, and Ricardo Marques in Benfica with 54.45%. Antonio Videira was re-elected for a third term in Marvila with 38.22%.
With most candidates replacing local officials unable to run again due to the law limiting mandates (three consecutive terms), new socialist presidents were elected: Mauro Santos (47.99%) in Alcântara, Carla Almeida (38.29%) in Misericórdia, Iara Ferreira (29.16%) in Olivais, Elisa Madureira (39.56%) in Penha de França, Carlos Castro in Santa Clara (32.41%), Maria João Correia (40.95%) in Santa Maria Maior, and André Biveti (40.33%) in São Vicente.
