An accident early this morning on the Itinerário Complementar 1 (IC1) bridge over the Sado River, near Alcácer do Sal, prompted a response from the Alentejo Litoral Sub-Regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection. The alert was raised at 01:02.

A 40-year-old man, who was driving the car involved in the crash, was confirmed as the victim, according to a source from the Setúbal Territorial Command of the GNR.

Emergency services confirmed that the IC1 was closed to traffic during the night, but it was reopened this morning.

The rescue operations involved a total of 24 personnel from the Alcácer do Sal Fire Department, National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), GNR, and Infraestruturas de Portugal, supported by 11 vehicles.

Resources deployed to the scene included an Immediate Life Support (SIV) ambulance and a medical emergency and resuscitation vehicle (VMER).
