“If the work continues to progress favorably, we aim to have the fire under control by the end of the morning. We cannot categorically confirm this, but we are doing everything to make it happen,” stated Rui Costa, the sub-regional commander of Vale do Ave of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPT).
Speaking to the Lusa news agency around 09:00, Rui Costa mentioned that “teams are on the ground working on the active front in Ermida, within the Peneda-Gerês National Park (PNPG).”
Rui Costa added that a heavy helicopter has been requested to assist in battling the flames, currently located 12 kilometers from Lindoso.
“During the night, no homes were at risk. The parish of Ermida was confined, but residents were able to return to their homes. There are no injuries to report. Four operatives received assistance, but none were taken to the hospital,” he noted.
Today, weather conditions “will be very similar to those recorded yesterday [Monday].”
“We will have wind with some intensity until 17:00,” he emphasized.
As of 09:30, according to the website of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC), 388 operatives were engaged in combating the fire that started on Saturday night in this municipality of Viana do Castelo district, supported by 126 vehicles.
