Combat evolves favorably in Montalegre

A fire alert was issued around midday near the village of Gralhas, on the southern slope of the Larouco mountain, with two active fronts burning intensely during the afternoon.

Júlio Lopes, deputy commander of the Montalegre Fire Department, stated that by 7:30 PM, one of the fronts had been controlled, while the other maintained “about 100 to 150 meters of active flame.”

Lopes explained that the fire continues to burn in an area covered with brush and oak trees with difficult access.

With nightfall and cooler temperatures, Lopes is hopeful that the fire can be brought under control in the coming hours.

He mentioned that ground-based machinery is already being deployed on the scene.

According to the online information from the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC), 119 personnel and 39 vehicles were mobilized to Montalegre by 7:30 PM.

During the afternoon, around ten aerial resources were active in the area within the Vila Real district. The village of Padornelos faced risk at one point, a situation that was resolved by firefighters with aerial support.
