
This amount, explained European Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience, and Competitive Circular Economy, Jessika Roswall, during a press conference, is an estimate encompassing expected savings across various economic sectors.
The European Commission aims to reduce administrative burdens by at least 25% for large enterprises and by at least 35% for small and medium-sized enterprises by the end of 2029, which marks the conclusion of the Commission’s term.
Brussels projects annual savings of approximately 170 million euros in industrial emissions of pollutants, primarily through the simplification and acceleration of environmental assessments for licensing, and 180 million euros annually in environmental assessment savings.
In terms of the circular economy, the estimated savings are 525 million euros, particularly through replacing the hazardous substances database in products with more efficient digital solutions and simplifying extended producer responsibility, which exempts EU companies from the need to appoint authorized representatives in another member state.
The environmental ‘omnibus’ package, presented today, is the eighth legislative simplification proposal and requires approval by the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament.
The overarching goal of the European Commission is to achieve annual savings of 37.5 billion euros in administrative costs by the end of the Commission’s term in 2029.
