Company accused of mistreating ducks will only have animals after investigation.

The SIC aired a report on Monday concerning Marinhave, the largest duck farm in the Iberian Peninsula, revealing images of newly hatched ducks discarded in trash bins, some alive and others dead.

The footage also shows workers mistreating the animals on the farm.

“The DGAV views these situations with utmost seriousness and is undertaking all necessary measures to thoroughly ascertain the facts,” the DGAV stated in a release.

This farm has been without animals since September 5 following the confirmation of an avian flu outbreak.

According to the DGAV, new animals will only be introduced into the farm after ongoing investigations are complete “and provided there is full compliance with legal requirements regarding animal welfare and biosecurity.”

Additional inspections are underway to gather technical information to assess the reported situations.

If confirmed, sanctions such as administrative fines will be applied.

“The DGAV reaffirms its commitment to the strict adherence to national and European legislation on animal welfare, public health protection, and maintaining public trust,” it concluded.

Lusa contacted Marinhave and is awaiting a response.
