The Competition Authority (AdC) has approved the acquisition of Tirgal – Transitários de Portugal by GS Marítima, part of the Sousa Group, as announced on the regulator’s website.
On August 20, 2025, the AdC Board of Directors stated its decision of no opposition to the merger, determining it does not pose significant barriers to effective competition in the national market or a substantial part of it.
The preliminary notification of this merger, involving GS Marítima’s acquisition of exclusive control over Tirgal, was received by the regulator on July 8, 2025.
GS Marítima, active both directly and through subsidiaries in the maritime cargo transport and integrated logistics sector, is part of the Sousa Group, a maritime-port group engaged in logistics, energy, and tourism, headquartered in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
Tirgal provides freight forwarding services primarily via sea for containerized and conventional cargo from the ports of Lisbon and Leixões to the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores, as well as to West Africa, including São Tomé and Príncipe, Cape Verde, and Angola.
