
The 43 Secretaries of State of the XXV Constitutional Government have officially taken office, following the inauguration of Prime Minister Luís Montenegro and his 16 ministers.
This significant occasion was marked by a ceremony commencing at noon at Palácio da Ajuda.
Inês Domingos, Secretary of State for European Affairs, was the first to be sworn in, while Rui Miguel Ladeira Pereira, Secretary of State for Forests, concluded the ceremony.
Among the Secretaries of State, there are 13 new faces, accounting for 30% of the total. Notable among them is Rui Rocha, Vice-President of PSD, former Vice-President under Rui Rio’s leadership, and ex-mayor of Ovar Santiago Malheiro, as well as João Manuel Esteves, who served as mayor of Arcos de Valdevez until the end of March, completing his third term.
Other notable new appointees include João Valle e Azevedo, a Deputy and economist at the Bank of Portugal, Tiago Macieirinha, former legal advisor to Passos Coelho, Bernardo Correia, Director-General of Google in Portugal, and Cláudia Sarrico, an OECD analyst for Higher Education.
This completes the formation of the new government, which consists of 60 officials, including the Prime Minister, with 20 women making up 33% of the total, compared to 24 women in the previous government of 59 members (approximately 40%).
