Completion of the 1st phase of the modernization of the Lisbon Metro mobile network

In an announcement, Drivetel—which was acquired by the Greengray Group in September and is responsible for developing this project in collaboration with their technology partner, NetCeed—emphasizes this operation’s large-scale nature within a highly regulated underground environment, encompassing eight tunnels, 39 stations, and seven technical rooms.

The initiative also involves the installation of over 300 antennas in concourses, platforms, and platforms, supported by more than 12 kilometers of hybrid cable (optical fiber and power) and 10 kilometers of RF cable, making it one of the largest installations undertaken in the country in an underground context.

Drivetel oversees the engineering and technical implementation facets of this project, leveraging its expertise in telecommunications solutions for critical infrastructures and environments of high complexity.

Following the completion of the first sector of the Yellow Line, subsequent phases of the project will continue, described as “one of the largest underground network upgrades ever conducted in Portugal,” aimed at ensuring more robust, stable, and uniform mobile coverage for the thousands of passengers using Lisbon’s metro daily.

Drivetel highlights this modernization as “a decisive step towards more connected, efficient mobility ready to meet the digital demands of the next decade.”
