Connection from the Crystal Palace to Restauração in Porto advances in November

The public procurement portal has announced that a contract for the amount of 1,995,625.50 euros has been awarded to Araújo & Brandão Construções, a company based in Maia.

On January 9, the Porto City Council issued a public tender with a base price of 2.2 million euros. This tender anticipates the construction of a structure that will include an elevator to connect two locations that, while adjacent, are separated by a significant slope.

“The installation of the elevator on Rua da Restauração is essential to ensure full accessibility to this area of the city,” the municipality stated in a communication.

The city council emphasized that the intervention will be integrated “harmoniously” and will respect and preserve the “identity and historical value of the area.”

“This new connection between the Palácio de Cristal and Rua da Restauração strengthens the city’s strategy to promote pedestrianization and humanization of public spaces in the historic city center, fostering inclusion, development, and cultural enhancement,” it noted.

This elevator installation is part of the city’s ongoing strategy to create pedestrian pathways with mechanized linkages. In 2020, the city had already inaugurated escalators in Miragaia, replacing the “steep stairs” near Rua do Monte dos Judeus.
