Technical difficulties have reportedly led to delays in the distribution of Municipal Property Tax (IMI) billing notices, prompting the government to take action. On Thursday, officials confirmed the existence of “technical constraints” related to a “blackout” that caused the Autoridade Tributária (AT) to postpone the dispatch of numerous billing notices.
As a result, the government has decided to extend the payment deadline for this tax until the end of June.
Haven’t Received Your Billing Notice? Here’s What to Do
According to DECO PROTeste, taxpayers can retrieve their payment information through the Portal das Finanças. To do so, users should log in and then navigate to Services > Municipal Property Tax > Consult Billing Notices > 2024.
DECO PROTeste also notes that if the tax amount is less than 100 euros, it constitutes the sole IMI payment of the year.
“If the annual amount exceeds 100 euros, the second installment is due in November. To retrieve payment details for other installments, follow the same procedure. Conversely, if the annual tax exceeds 500 euros, it is payable in three installments, with the remaining installments due in August and November,” the organization advises.
