The database, operational since 2015, currently contains 7,286 entries of individuals convicted of sexual offenses against children. This repository includes details such as names, ages, residences, and specific crimes committed.
Annually, the number of convicted persons documented in this database has remained consistently above 300, with an exception in 2017 when 287 offenders were recorded. The peak was seen in 2022 with 386 entries; as of November 11 this year, 303 individuals have been registered.
Requests for database access have escalated annually, with 2024 marking the highest consultation requests. Last year, there were 3,522 requests, surpassing 2023’s 2,595. Before 2022, requests never exceeded 1,000. The upward trend continues with 3,282 requests recorded by November 11 this year.
This database is accessible to judicial and Public Ministry magistrates in criminal investigations, police, the Directorate-General for Reintegration and Prison Services, Child and Youth Protection Commissions, and citizens responsible for minors under 16 who justify their interest in accessing the data.
Per the August 2015 publication dispatch, database access may be requested from police authorities if there’s a credible fear that a listed offender lives, works, or has been seen in the vicinity of a minor’s residential area, extracurricular activities, or school vicinity.
According to legislation, sexual offenders’ data is retained for five years if fines or prison sentences of up to one year are imposed, 10 years for prison sentences between one and five years, 15 years for sentences between five and 10 years, and 20 years for sentences exceeding 10 years.
