Contemporary art is celebrated in Lisbon at the 7th Lisbon Art Weekend.

The 7th edition of the Lisbon Art Weekend (LAW) features “more than 250 artists, 50 spaces [all with free entry], and 80 free events,” continuing its role as an independent, inclusive platform open to the public, according to the organization.

This year, public visits will include Portuguese Sign Language (LGP) interpretation for the first time, and curatorial tours led by artists, curators, and collectors will offer new perspectives on Lisbon’s art scene.

As the event kicks off on Thursday, new spaces such as the Fundação Arpad Szenes – Vieira da Silva, the Museu de Arte Contemporânea Armando Martins, and the Fundação PLMJ join the LAW circuit, expanding its reach and diversity.

Notable highlights of the 7th LAW include exhibitions by Franco-Algerian photographer Zineb Sedira at the Gulbenkian’s Centro de Arte Moderna, Welsh conceptual artist Cerith Wyn Evans at the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT), Swiss artist Heidi Bucher at the Jahn und Jahn gallery, Uzbek filmmaker and artist Saodat Ismailova at Kunsthalle Lissabon, Portuguese sculptor Rui Chafes at the Galeria Filomena Soares, and Portuguese visual artist Nuno Nunes-Ferreira at Balcony Contemporary Art Gallery.

This edition remains committed to its founding mission: “Ensuring that the Lisbon Art Weekend continues to be a free, accessible, and high-quality gateway to contemporary art in Lisbon.”

The LAW organization, a non-profit established in 2019, aims to “create a permanent physical space serving as a venue for convergence and programming throughout the year.”
