The French duo Air is performing their album “Moon Safari” live at CoolJazz in Cascais today, marking the start of this year’s edition of the festival, whose line-up includes Diana Krall, Chaka Khan and Jamie Cullum.

The CoolJazz festival, celebrating its 20th anniversary, takes place throughout July and has three concerts per night. It starts with the Cascais Jazz Sessions, continues with a first part and ends with the headliner. There will be DJ sets at the end of each night.

From today, the festival returns to the Manuel Possolo Racecourse, where the main stage is, and to the adjacent Marechal Carmona Park, where there is a second stage and an area with bars and restaurants.

Doors open at 19:00 and the concerts start at 20:00.

Air are the highlight of the first day. The duo will perform their album “Moon Safari”, released 25 years ago, in its entirety, which includes songs such as “Sexy Boy”, “Kelly watch the stars” and “All I need”.

Before that, the Croatian-Portuguese artist Lana Gasparotti and the Portuguese Marwan, one of the winners of the festival’s new talent competition, will perform. After Air, there will be a DJ set by journalist Pedro Dias de Almeida.

On Wednesday, the North American singer Chaka Khan, voice of songs such as “I’m every woman” or “Ain’t nobody”, who is visiting Portugal as part of her 50th anniversary tour, the British Morcheeba, the Portuguese Onoma and the singer Alex D’Alva Teixeira, will perform a DJ set.

The third day of CoolJazz, on July 19, is entirely dedicated to Portuguese music, with Dino D’Santiago, Maro, the Rogério Pitomba Trio and a DJ set by Progressivu.

A regular at the festival, Canadian singer and pianist Diana Krall takes to the stage on July 26. Also performing on the same day are the Manuel Oliveira Trio, saxophonist and singer Eunice Barbosa and DJ Pedro Tenreiro.

On July 27, Brazilian singers Marina Sena and Luedji Luna, Portuguese band Salamandra and producer Sónia Trópicos will perform a DJ set.

The penultimate day of the festival features performances by New Zealanders Fat Freddy’s Drop, Portuguese band Expresso Transatlântico, Portuguese-Angolan pianist and composer Gisela Mabel and Portuguese DJ Matilde Castro.

This year, CoolJazz will close on July 31 with British singer and pianist Jamie Cullum, another regular at the festival.

In addition to Jamie Cullum, Portuguese singer Inês Marques Lucas and Portuguese drummer Guilherme Melo will perform. There will also be a DJ set by singer Beatriz Pessoa with director Daniel Mota.

The festival, which this year has a new naming sponsor, the insurance company Ageas, also has a free program, the Cascais Lazy Sundays, which take place on Sundays in the gardens of the Casa das Histórias Paula Rego.

On July 14, 21 and 28, there will be DJ sets, starting at 7pm, by broadcaster Inês Lopes Gonçalves with drummer Ivo Costa, broadcaster Vanda Miranda and “variety artist” Wandson, respectively.
