“Though the initial outlook was higher, production is estimated at 3.5 million arrobas in Portugal and two million arrobas in Spain, totaling 5.5 million arrobas (82,500 tons), a figure 15% lower than the 2024 campaign,” stated Filcork – Interprofessional Association of the Cork Industry in a statement today.
As explained, due to market conditions, a “significant amount” of cork extraction has been postponed to 2026.
This year’s campaign, which ensured the industry’s stock for normal activity, recorded a drop in the average price of between 10% and 15%.
The cost of extraction remained stable, despite increases in recent campaigns.
The association noted the current concern over the business state, emphasizing the need to develop actions across the entire value chain to ensure “fair compensation for all stakeholders” and strengthen the cork industry’s role.
Filcork comprises seven production and transformation associations.
