A survey conducted by the Portuguese Insurance Association (APS) among its members revealed that 22,319 claims were reported, covered by insurance policies, amounting to an aggregate damage value of approximately 50 million euros.
Of this total amount, about 5.9 million euros have already been paid in indemnities, while the remaining 44.2 million euros are provisioned.
Out of the claims reported, 97.9% pertain to residential and commercial and industrial activity insurance.
The initial assessment, published on March 31, which APS had anticipated would be revised upwards, estimated damages at 28 million euros across 14,681 claims covered by insurance policies.
The passage of the Martinho depression, characterized by strong rain, wind, and maritime disturbances, resulted in thousands of incidents on the Portuguese mainland, mostly involving fallen trees and structures, between March 19 and 23, when orange weather alerts—the second most severe level—were in effect.
