The former party president stated today that “Iniciativa Liberal” is at a crossroads, and its members must decide if they want to be a party of “niche, ideological, orthodox, intellectual, more focused on promoting the liberal ideal among the electorate,” or if they prefer to be a party “more focused on concrete change that improves people’s lives while maintaining liberal convictions.”
João Cotrim de Figueiredo commented that “either of these alternatives is a legitimate and defensible choice.”
He warned during a speech at the IL’s X Convention, taking place today in Alcobaça, Leiria district, that these visions “are not compatible.”

“I choose the second path because it is the one that allows the party to grow to levels where it can effectively influence decisions,” he declared.
