The Council of Ministers has announced the appointment of Rui Nuno Baleiras and Paula Vaz Freire as vice-president and member of the ASF, respectively. This decision follows consultations with the Assembly of the Republic and a positive review from the CReSAP, the Commission for Recruitment and Selection for Public Administration.
Late last year, Rui Nuno Baleiras, the then-head of the Technical Unit for Budgetary Support (UTAO), was selected as the vice-president of the ASF.
On March 27, the government assessed whether they could finalize his appointment within the constraints of a caretaker government.
“We are making the necessary verifications to ensure there is clear authorization within the powers of a caretaker government,” stated António Leitão Amaro, the Minister of the Presidency, at the time.
Paula Vaz Freire, a professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Lisbon (FDUL), will replace board member Manuel Caldeira Cabral, whose term concluded at the end of 2024.
The minister acknowledged the possibility for the appointment to proceed even under the caretaker status, noting that the process was initiated prior to the government’s dismissal following the failed confidence vote.
