Couple accused of triple homicide in Bragança goes on trial today.

The case dates back to July 9, 2022, when the alleged first murder occurred, involving a 66-year-old woman.

The public prosecutor stated that when the accused entered the family home, he was confronted by this woman and, using a knife, “inflicted 10 blows that hit, among other areas, her face, neck, chest, and abdomen, causing multiple injuries leading to her death.”

The husband reportedly heard the screams and, when he attempted to understand what was happening, he was also allegedly attacked, suffering a knife wound to the face. The suspect eventually fled.

Ten days later, the two suspects allegedly returned to the residence to destroy evidence and steal drugs, ultimately allegedly killing the 69-year-old man and his approximately 40-year-old son.

The prosecutor further noted that the female defendant, besides “living in a de facto union” with the male defendant, “maintained a romantic relationship” with the 40-year-old man, “who was involved in the sale and/or distribution of narcotics.”

According to the charges, the two defendants, on that night, “inflicted 17 knife blows to the body of the victim” and subsequently killed the father with “24 fatal blows.”

Before fleeing, they set fire to the rooms of the house.

The couple was arrested on the night of August 13 in Spain. After being presented for an initial hearing, they were held in preventive custody.

Today, they begin trial for two charges of qualified homicide, two charges of attempted desecration of a corpse, one charge of arson, and one charge of attempted qualified theft. The male defendant is also charged with qualified homicide and one charge of qualified assault.
