A family was left homeless after a fire broke out in the kitchen of their residence in Esposende, Braga district, leaving the house unsuitable for habitation.
The incident was confirmed by the Volunteer Firefighters of Esposende.
The couple and their three-year-old child have secured temporary housing with relatives.
The family had left the house at around 11:30 a.m. and discovered the fire upon their return in the afternoon. They reported the fire at 2:40 p.m., and it has since been extinguished.
The homeowners arrived to see “flames” in their ground-floor apartment. The house’s shutters were already destroyed. They opened the door but found “heavy smoke and high temperatures” and promptly closed it again.
While the flames were contained to the kitchen, smoke and extreme heat spread throughout the house, rendering it uninhabitable. Evacuation of the building was not necessary.
