The couple aged 37 and 47, arrested over the weekend for stealing beverages and cleaning products from a supermarket in Alcobaça, had previously robbed a hospital and a vehicle parked on a public road.
The suspects committed the crimes between February 20, 2024, and May 24, 2025, as stated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP).
“On 05/24/2025, the accused used physical force, assaulting the victim to retain the goods she had just stolen from the commercial establishment,” the organization noted.
The Police of Public Security (PSP) reported that the supermarket security recognized the woman as being “responsible for other thefts at the same establishment where interception was not possible.”
“Upon approaching the woman and requesting she voluntarily show the contents of her bag, the security officer was immediately and violently pushed. Another individual, perceived to be collaborating with the woman, also assaulted the officer,” it was reported.
The couple, held at the site until the PSP’s arrival, stole “beverages and cleaning products, valued at around 100 euros.”
They appeared before the judiciary on Monday, with the man subjected to an identity and residence regime and house arrest under remote surveillance. The woman is required to report twice weekly.
It was also determined that the Directorate-General for Reintegration and Prison Services (DGRSP) and CRI/CICAD must work “to find a spot for the accused’s drug addiction treatment and schedule an evaluation for the same condition by the woman.”
The investigation continues under the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Department of Investigation and Penal Action of Alcobaça, assisted by the PSP.
