Two people were left homeless early this afternoon due to a fire in Figueiredo de Alva, with the municipality of São Pedro do Sul relocating the couple, the local president told Lusa.
Pedro Mouro stated that a fire in Figueiredo de Alva, in the municipality of São Pedro do Sul, Viseu district, left the home of an elderly couple, around 70 years old, “partially destroyed.”
“The social services of the city hall have already taken care of relocating the people, placing them in the youth hostel,” the socialist mayor specified.
According to the president of the São Pedro do Sul City Council, the fire may have originated from the chimney of a wood stove, and caused no injuries.
“The house needs repairs, so the couple cannot stay there,” he added, noting that besides the municipal social services, the local civil protection was also present at the scene.
A source from the Viseu Dão Lafões Sub-regional Command stated that the alert for the incident, which caused no injuries, was given at 12:53, with firefighters and the Republican National Guard also present at the scene.
