An elderly couple was found deceased on Sunday in a house in Barrô, Resende, as confirmed by both Resende Volunteer Firefighters and the National Republican Guard (GNR).
A security force representative stated that a family member alerted authorities after discovering the couple in their bedroom, both of whom had been suffering from various illnesses.
The GNR, present at the scene, ruled out criminal activity as a cause.
It appears the woman, aged 84, may have tripped and struck her head. The man, aged 87, seemingly leaned over to assist her and also hit his head on a cabinet, subsequently falling partially over her body.
The Resende Volunteer Firefighters reported that the alert was raised at 10:15 AM, and the deaths were confirmed on-site. In addition to firefighters and GNR, the Vila Real Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle and the Lamego Immediate Life Support Ambulance were present.
The victims’ bodies were transported to the legal medical office of Vila Real Hospital.
