A couple, aged 37 and 47, was arrested over the weekend by the Public Security Police (PSP) after assaulting a “supermarket security guard” and stealing “some products” in Alcobaça.
In a statement sent to newsrooms, the PSP indicated that “the private security professional, while on duty at a supermarket, noticed the strange behavior of a woman” and recognized her as “the perpetrator of other thefts at the same establishment, where she had previously escaped capture.”
“Upon approaching the woman and requesting to voluntarily see the contents of her bag, he was immediately and violently pushed. Another individual, who appeared to be acting in concert with the woman, then joined and also assaulted the guard,” the statement read.
Passersby who intended to enter the commercial establishment assisted in detaining the suspects until the PSP arrived and prevented further assault on the security guard.
Once the PSP was on site, “they verified the items inside the bag carried by the suspect, which included beverages and cleaning products valued at approximately 100 euros.”
The items were “recovered,” and the PSP proceeded with the “arrest of the two suspects, who maintained a consistently aggressive and defiant demeanor.”
“It is noteworthy that the detainees are already known for committing several theft crimes, and it is believed that they make this type of criminal activity their way of life,” the statement noted.
The detained individuals were presented to the judicial authority on Monday, resulting in the man receiving preventive detention and the woman being required to make biweekly appearances.
