A couple, a 51-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, was detained on Thursday night on suspicion of theft inside a commercial establishment in the Santa Casa area of Coimbra.
In a statement released to the press on Friday, the Public Security Police (PSP) reported that “the two suspects, husband and wife, left the commercial space without paying for several clothing items,” but were intercepted by a building security officer.
During police proceedings, the PSP inspected the couple’s vehicle, which was parked nearby, discovering “various clothing and footwear items from different brands, wallets, books, CDs and DVDs, food products, and hygiene items,” along with other articles.
When questioned by police, the detainees could not explain the origin of the items, which were seized under a search and seizure warrant.
