Couple threatens and assaults police in Marinha Grande (and it’s not the first time)

Two individuals have been arrested for crimes involving qualified assault, aggravated threats, and insults against law enforcement officers, announced the Public Security Police (PSP) in a statement on Monday.

The arrests took place on August 28 following a theft at a supermarket in Marinha Grande by a 29-year-old woman. When confronted by an officer on duty, she denied committing the crime and refused to open her bag. However, the officer found unpaid items inside upon checking.

The woman, upon being asked to identify herself, became increasingly aggressive and attempted to forcibly retrieve her belongings from the officer, according to the PSP. She was then handcuffed and arrested for aggravated insults with the help of another officer.

Her 49-year-old partner interfered with the police operation, challenging the officers and hindering their actions, even threatening one of them. Consequently, he was also arrested for aggravated threats. As he was being handcuffed, he reportedly slapped one of the officers in the face, after which he was subdued, handcuffed, and taken to the police station in Marinha Grande.

Both individuals, already known for theft, bodily harm, domestic violence, drug use, and other inappropriate behaviors, were released but remain bound by terms of identity and residence. The man has a prior charge of aggravated threat from 2019 when he allegedly threatened two officers from Marinha Grande with an automatic knife, claiming he would cut their throats.
