Court decides today whether Ventura is obliged to remove posters of Roma.

This trial will be held in a single session where the court will hear witnesses called by both the leader of Chega, André Ventura, and the six members of the Roma community who have decided to proceed with this special action for personality rights protection.

The session is scheduled to begin at 09:20, and by the end of the day, it should be determined whether André Ventura will be compelled to remove the banners he placed regarding the Roma community.

This action was filed at the beginning of this month, authored by lawyer Ricardo Sá Fernandes, and seeks to have André Ventura fined 5,000 euros for each day of delay or for any banners that may be placed with similar content.

The banners, placed by Chega in several locations including Moita, Montijo, and Palmela, display the following statement alongside André Ventura’s photograph as a presidential candidate: “The Roma must obey the law.”

According to the plaintiffs, the banners “convey the message that the Roma do not obey the law,” which “stigmatizes and humiliates the Roma people as a whole.”

The message on the banners “offends the moral integrity and the right to dignity” of those concerned, the plaintiffs further asserted, adding that “André Ventura cannot hide behind freedom of expression.”
