CP – Comboios de Portugal today warned of significant disruptions to train traffic nationwide on Wednesday due to the strike called for that day by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) workers.
“We inform you that, due to a strike called by unions representing the workers of IP – Infraestruturas de Portugal, responsible for the management of the railway infrastructure, significant disturbances in the circulation of trains at national level are anticipated on January 10, 2024,” the CP note reads.
The company said that the event could also affect services on January 9 and 11.
CP said that minimum services had been defined, with the exception of the Cascais line, “where the majority of services are expected to be carried out”.
The company guarantees that customers who have already purchased tickets to travel on Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, International, InterRegional and Regional trains “will be refunded the full value of the ticket purchased, or it will be exchanged free of charge for another train in the same category and class”.
The strike is related to the working conditions and salaries of the profession, and covers workers in railway operation, command, control, information, traffic management and conservation, according to Aprofer – the Trade Union Association of Railway Command and Control Professionals.
IP workers have already held two strike days this year.
On January 4, the strike led to the suppression of 781 trains, out of 1,088 scheduled (71.8% suppressed), between 00:00 and 19:00, and on January 2 to the suppression of 798 trains, out of a total of 1,086 estimated, with only the minimum services being complied with until 19:00, CP said.
