Crato Festival kicks off today with an eclectic lineup for various generations

The Crato Festival, organized by the Crato Chamber, first held in 1984, takes place in the town center. This year’s program, running until Saturday, features 21 performances, including DJs.

The event’s director, Joaquim Diogo, emphasized the eclectic nature of the lineup, stating that the Crato Festival aims, as it does every year, “to be as inclusive as possible and cater to diverse musical tastes.”

“We create an atmosphere where various generations can experience different music rhythms and new projects, so our visitors are pleasantly surprised,” he added.

The event kicks off today with a special day of free entry for everyone, including those without a wristband, coinciding with the opening day of the 39th Crato Crafts and Gastronomy Fair, set to open at 7:00 PM, according to the organizers.

Concerts begin at 9:30 PM with Vizinhos opening this edition of the Crato Festival, followed by performances from Os Raíz (with special guests), Cutting Crew, and Remember Old Times.

The second day, Wednesday, features hip-hop from Wet Bed Gang, a group from Vialonga, in Vila Franca de Xira, alongside Plutónio, Mizzy Miles, and Dadda, with Thursday reserved for Brazilian rapper Matuê, Lon3r Johny, ProfJam, Portuguese artist Jüra (Joana Silva), and DJ LK from Scotland.

Notable acts on Friday include the British band Skunk Anansie, led by the charismatic Skin, and the Portuguese band GNR, with Rui Reininho at the helm.

Additionally, a show is scheduled that day featuring Luís Trigacheiro alongside special guests Diogo Piçarra and Buba Espinho, with DJs Matcho and Ana Isabel Arroja closing the night.

The festival’s final day on Saturday will feature Brazilian singer Daniela Mercury, replacing fellow Brazilian Zé Filipe, along with Portuguese artists Fernando Daniel, Nena, and Insert Coin.

Besides music throughout these five days, visitors can enjoy exhibits at the 39th Crato Crafts and Gastronomy Fair.

Over the years, the festival has hosted “internationally recognized names” such as the Beach Boys (without the Wilson brothers), The Animals, James, Scorpions, and Roger Hodgson (Supertramp).
