The establishment of new companies in Portugal fell nearly 3% by the end of April 2025, as reported by the Informa D&B Barometer released on Thursday.
“In the first four months of the year, 18,979 new companies were created in Portugal, which corresponds to a decline of 2.9% (-567 registrations) compared to the same period last year,” stated a communication accessed by Notícias ao Minuto.
Most sectors contributed to this decline, with a significant impact from the Transport sector, experiencing a 26% drop (-464 registrations), particularly within ‘passenger transport services on request in vehicles with a driver’.
This sector, after experiencing growth surpassing all others in recent years, has been in decline since 2024, registering a 49% decrease (-669 registrations) in these first four months of 2025. General Services, the second sector with the highest number of new companies, also saw a notable reduction of 9.7% (-289 registrations),” the statement revealed.
