The new government being inaugurated today consists of 16 ministries, one less than the previous administration, with the Economy now associated with the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion, to be led by Manuel Castro Almeida.
“In theory, the creation of a ‘super ministry’ that combines the Economy and Territorial Cohesion could be positive as it may enhance economic dynamism. It centralizes oversight of the main economic sectors and the management of funds and supports necessary for the development of strategic infrastructures, crucial for national economic growth.”
In a statement, the president of the CTP, Francisco Calheiros, expressed hope that the new ministry will continue to prioritize tourism in terms of public policy and initiate important strategic projects that require urgent attention for the country’s benefit.
In the new government’s structure, the CTP also praised the establishment of a Ministry for State Reform.
“It has been a priority for the CTP to highlight the urgent necessity of a profound state reform. Therefore, we welcome the creation of a specific ministry as a promising sign that the much-needed reforms for the country might finally progress,” stated Francisco Calheiros.
The inauguration of the 25th Constitutional Government will take place today at 6:00 PM, 18 days after the elections, marking the fastest government formation process in the presidential terms of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
